Current Status

Assembly Bill A4455, the “Naturopathic Doctors Licensing Act,” was introduced in the New Jersey Assembly in July 2020 and referred to the Assembly Regulated Professions Committee. The bill did not advance before the end of the 2020–2021 legislative session. The bill achieved bipartisan support when it was introduced as S2735 in February 2024 for the 2024-2025 session, where it was referred to the Senate Commerce Committee. It did not advance beyond that and will need to be reintroduced in a future session.

Bill Summary

The “Naturopathic Doctors Licensing Act” (A4455) is a New Jersey bill that would create a State Board of Naturopathic Examiners within the Division of Consumer Affairs and require licensure for anyone using the title “naturopathic doctor.” The bill defines naturopathic medicine as a distinct primary care system focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, and it sets clear standards for education, board exams, continuing education, ethics, and discipline for naturopathic doctors. ​​
