Legislative Updates & Bill Summary

Legislative Updates & Bill Summary
Updated January 2026

Current Status

Senate Bill S904, the “Naturopathic Doctors Licensing Act,” was introduced January 2026 by Senators Michael Testa  (R) and Joseph Lagana (D). The bill once again achieved bipartisan support for the 2026-2027 legislative session and was referred to the Senate Commerce Committee. We are actively working to get the Senate Commerce Committee to have a full hearing. The outcome is hopeful because our bill sponsor, Senator Lagana, is the Chair of the Senate Commerce Committee. We are also working to build relationships within the New Jersey Assembly to find a champion to sponsor a companion bill in the Assembly.

Bill Summary

The “Naturopathic Doctors Licensing Act” (S904) is a New Jersey bill that would create a State Board of Naturopathic Examiners within the Division of Consumer Affairs and require licensure for anyone using the title “naturopathic doctor.” The bill defines naturopathic medicine as a distinct primary care system focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, and it sets clear standards for education, board exams, continuing education, ethics, and discipline for naturopathic doctors.
